Bamboo floors are the hottest thing in flooring at the moment but we get asked many times about the best way to care for bamboo floors. Here are some little tips that will help maximise the durability and beauty of this lovely flooring:
Place doormats or rugs at your entrances to collect moister, sand, grit and other potentially damaging substances from being tracked onto your bamboo floor. This may sound pretty generic, but it will go a long way in keeping your bamboo floors in pristine condition.
Dust mop or vacuum with a soft accessory to keep your bamboo floor clean from dust, dirt or grit: This is perhaps one of the most important tips! Bamboo floors, whilst extremely durable, are not infallible. Using a soft accessory when cleaning is paramount.
For sticky spots, use a soft damp cloth to gently scrub the floor. If necessary, use a generic hardwood floor cleaner. Do not use steel wool or other abrasive scouring pads. This may seem like a no brainer, but we cannot tell you how many times we’ve seen beautiful bamboo floors ruined by people scrubbing with abrasive pads
Do not use harsh detergents, abrasive cleansers, or corrosive chemicals to clean your bamboo floor – remembering that bamboo is a natural flooring and is not made to withstand the harsher cleaners – water and vinegar are a good natural alternative.
Now after suggesting to use water to clean your bamboo floors, we need to ask that you avoid excessive water! Again, bamboo is a natural product and can be subject to water damage. Use mats in the kitchen, bathroom and laundry room to protect against spills. If a spill occurs, blot it up immediately with a dry cloth or slightly damp mop.
We recommend using only colorfast and non-scratch carpeting or pads on your bamboo floor.
And last but not least – prevention is better than cure! Protect your floor from furniture legs and do not walk on the floor with high-heeled shoes.
