Create a Relaxing Family Room

9 August 2016 | Renovating

The family room has become one of the most used and versatile rooms in a family home: acting as a rumpus room, entertainment area or a space where you can casually unwind at the end of the day. With so many purposes and uses, the flooring of your family room should accommodate for all by being comfortable yet durable.

Selecting carpet for this area is often the best choice – it’s soft underfoot, reduces noise levels and it’s great for small children at play. With many different carpets textures and fibres to choose from, you need to make sure you choose one that can withstand pets and children, but is also soft underfoot. If you’re not sure what kind of carpet you need, learn more about Andersens range of carpets here.

We have chosen the modern Caulfield Square Ash Grey for our family room. As a Solution Dyed Polypropylene Textured Loop carpet, it’s designed for durability with stain resistant properties and loop texturing for high traffic areas. The darker colour also reduces risk of accidental stains from showing. A great value carpet that will stand family traffic for years, it’s also within a good budget range and is perfect if you’re a first home buyer or in the rental market.

To complement the deep grey flooring, choose a light wall colour to make the room look larger and more inviting. We’ve also added an additional metallic wallpaper feature to create a sense of fun, excitement and depth – subtly tying it in with the rest of the room with metallic pillows and décor.

  • Extra pillows to create a sense of softness
  • Subtly linking wall theme to furnishings
  • Soft, inviting couches and seats
  • Practical storage for entertainment equipment

Additional pillows and rugs in a deep colour, such as purple, will make sure your family room looks and feels inviting to everyone in the family. By keeping the furniture monotone and decorating with pillows, you can easily achieve a totally new look just by replacing your upholstery – cost effective and quick!
